This small, powerful ornament is an exploration of shadow and texture. I began with a 3/8" steel bar, hammer-texturing every inch to give it a rough-hewn look. This bar was then carefully forged into a perfect circle—a simple, enduring wreath.

At its heart rests a hand-forged steel skull which I welded seemlessly to the wreath. The entire piece was then brought to a heat of over 1,000 degrees and I hit the skull with a brass brush, which burnishes the high points of the skull to a soft, golden-bronze glow.

Finally, it was coated in molten beeswax. The wax blackened the textured wreath, creating a deep, matte shadow that makes the burnished skull appear to glow from within. It’s a piece rich with contrast and crafted to last for generations.
