Twisted Textured Hairpin
Twisted Textured Hairpin
I made this pin as part of my "Twisted & Textured" collection, four pins that share a family language but speak with different accents. This one wears a corkscrew reminiscent of the end of a vine at its top, a gentle coil that catches the light.
The shaft carries a long slow twist throughout. Every inch is textured with the cross-pein, a deliberate roughness that feels ancient in the hand. After forging, I blackened it in beeswax, then carefully hand-sanded the high ridges until the texture emerged from shadow—dark valleys, bright peaks. A final coat of Renaissance wax seals it all in place.
It's weighty enough to hold thick hair, but balanced and true. It's for someone who wants more than an accessory—who wants a small piece of the forge with them.
