The Forged Skull Hair Pin – A Piece for Thick Hair
The Forged Skull Hair Pin – A Piece for Thick Hair
This isn't just a hair accessory; it's a conversation starter forged in fire. I started with a hefty 1"x1/4" bar of steel and hand-forged a detailed skull at the top. From there, I carefully necked the steel down and drew it out into a sleek, 6-inch pin, tapering it to a point that easily slides into even the thickest of hair.
This pin was a labor of love and a lesson in transformation. Its substantial, solid feel means it’s built to hold a powerful bundle of hair with ease. The weight gives it a presence that flimsy, mass-produced pieces just can't match. It’s finished with a durable, heat-blued or beeswax-blackened patina to let all those hammer marks and the skull's details really pop.
This is for the person whose style is bold, a little dark, and utterly unique. It’s a piece of wearable art, from my forge to your hair.
The Details:
· Material: Hand-forged from 1"x1/4" mild steel bar stock.
· Feature: Intricately forged skull pommel.
· Size: The pin itself is just over 6 inches long, tapering from the neck down. A little over 7” total length
· Finish: Blackened with heat and beeswax for a dark, durable, and rustic look. I went back and sanded the face down with 600 grit sandpaper to add some highlights and show off the facial features
· Best For: Thick, heavy, or abundant hair that can handle a statement piece.
Please note that due to its solid construction, this pin has a satisfying, substantial weight to it. This is a one-of-a-kind piece from my first experiment with this style.
