The steel I made for this is essentially go mai. But the outer layer is a 150 layer Damascus billet, with 5 layers sandwiched between of alternating 15n20 and 1095. High contrast etch really pops in person, it was hard to photograph the very thin outer layers. The handle is stabilized redwood burl. I got to forge this knife on the amazing property we were able to visit in Port Ludlow, Washington. It started as a chunk of Damascus about 1” X 1 1/8” X over a 1/4”. All hand hammered outdoors in the forest.
